A simple video recorded by a young lady, Ella at a bus stop in Ikorodu has sparked a major conversation about public transportation in Lagos. The video, which quickly spread across social media, showed long queues of commuters waiting for buses. In the clip, the girl expressed frustration over the lack of available buses, highlighting how many residents struggle daily to find reliable transportation during peak hours.

How the Story Started

According to the video circulating online, the young girl filmed the situation while standing among other commuters at a bus stop in Ikorodu. With visible crowds and limited buses arriving, she spoke about how people often wait for extended periods before they can get transportation into other parts of Lagos.

Her video resonated with thousands of Lagos residents who shared similar experiences. Within hours, the clip began trending across platforms like X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and Facebook, prompting discussions about the growing pressure on the city's transport system.

Many commuters in the comments shared stories of spending hours at bus stops, especially during early mornings and evenings when demand for buses is highest. However, on her way to work yesterday as she was ready to make another video, she received a threat from a woman who was later confirmed to be a staff of the bus park disguising as a passenger. The woman warned her not to make any video here if not her phone will be taken away. Here's the video of the event

LAMATA’s Response

Following the viral attention, the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) released a statement acknowledging the concerns raised in the video.

The agency clarified that it is aware of the transportation challenges in some corridors of Lagos, including the busy Ikorodu Road axis, which serves thousands of commuters daily. LAMATA explained that efforts are already underway to improve services and increase the number of buses available to commuters.

Plans for Fleet Expansion

According to the agency, part of the long-term strategy includes expanding the fleet of buses operating under the city's regulated transport system. The goal is to reduce waiting time, improve reliability, and provide safer commuting options for residents.

Officials also noted that the growing population of Lagos continues to put pressure on existing transport infrastructure, making expansion and modernization a top priority.

A Moment That Sparked Conversation

While the video began as a simple expression of frustration from a young commuter, it has now triggered a broader conversation about urban transportation challenges in Lagos. For many residents, the moment highlights how powerful social media can be in bringing everyday issues to the attention of authorities.

As Lagos continues to grow, commuters hope that discussions like this will lead to faster improvements and a more efficient public transport system for everyone. The latest update from Ella today, 12th March 2026 is that there has been a major improvement as so many Brt buses were seen this morning at Ikorodu waiting to pick passengers unlike before.
