FG has revealed a plan to hire 74,000 more teachers by the end of 2024 in order to address the severe teacher shortage facing the education system as a nation.
According to the federal government, 2000 teachers will be hired every year by each of the 36 states and the FCT, Abuja as part of this recruiting effort, primarily targeting primary and secondary schools in underprivileged areas of the nation.
According to the Ministry of Education, it plans to start the first recruitment phase by December 2024 to close the large gap left by the 18 states that have not hired new teachers in the previous five years and boost the nation’s educational standard.
The action is part of a bigger initiative to guarantee that every school in Nigeria has a trained teacher who has been certified by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).
