
The top graduating student from Lagos State University for the 2023–2024 academic year, Isioma Sybil Nwosu received a cash gift of N10 million from Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Nwosu graduated with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.93 and was a Biochemistry graduate from the Faculty of Science.
The gift was announced on Thursday at LASU’s 28th Convocation Ceremony, which took place at the Buba Marwa Auditorium in Ojo. During the ceremony, distinguished professorships and honorary doctorates were awarded to notable individuals, including former Lagos State Deputy Governor Otunba Olufemi Pedro, who was the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
Sanwo-Olu emphasized his administration’s commitment to helping students in state-owned higher institutions through smart investments and infrastructure development.
Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, the vice chancellor of LASU, praised the state government for its ongoing assistance, calling it "truly exceptional."
She revealed that during the October–November 2023 accreditation process, 43 of the university's 44 courses received accreditation.
Additionally, she mentioned that new postgraduate programs at the Africa Centre of Excellence for Innovative and Transformative STEM Education had begun, involving international students for the first time.
There are 971 diploma holders, 8,711 first-degree graduates, 2,235 postgraduate students, 302 postgraduate diplomas, 1,132 academic masters, 639 professional masters, 125 doctor of philosophy (PhD.) recipients, and 37 professional doctorate degree holders were among the 11,917 LASU graduates who received their degrees during the ceremony.
